La Basilique du Sacre-Coeur is located in Paris, France is often know as is Sacré-Cœur Basilica or simply Sacré-Cœur. The Basilica is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and is owned by the Roman Catholic Church. It is located on the Hill of the Basilica (butte Montmartre) which is the highest location in the city. The building was designed by Abadie and construction of the Basilica began in 1875 and was finished in 1914 and was consecrated in 1919 after the conclusion of the First World War.
The Sacre-Coeur Basilica was built using travertine stone quarried in Château-Landon (Seine-et-Marne), France. This stone constantly exudes calcite, which ensures that the basilica remains white even with weathering and the pollution in the city.
The Sacre-Coeur Basilica is a beautiful structure with multiple domes on the top of the building, an expansive mediation garden with fountains to help in the meditation process and an amazing organ inside. Sacre-Coeur is actively in use today by the Catholic church and worshippers can attend Sunday Mass or other worship services within the Basilica.
