Utah State Capitol Building

The Utah State Capitol Building and complex houses the offices for the government of the State of Utah, including the Utah State Legislature, the Governor and Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, State Auditor and their staffs.  The Utah State Capitol building is the main building in the capitol complex and was built upon Capitol Hill.

The Capitol Building was built in the early 1900s and was completed in 1916.  Since then, the building has undergone several renovations, including adding a base isolation system that will allow the building to survive a 7.3 magnitude earthquake.  These renovations were completed in 2008 and the building was available for normal operations.

The Utah State Capitol building was designed using classical architecture that has been compared to the Parthenon in Greece.  The exterior is made out of Utah Granite mined from the Little Cottonwood canyon several miles from Capitol Hill.
